What does it mean to be “locked in”?
Some cloud vendors, like Google and Amazon, have their own proprietary cloud technology, which is great for them, but not necessarily so good for you. As a result, once you get your system set up and customized, it’s going to be a big hassle if you ever want to switch to a new provider.

Depending on your level of in-house expertise, you may have to contact the providers you’re considering and have an in-depth conversation with them about the things you need to change to make the transition easier.
A successful migration will take some time and effort, but it’s better to begin the process as soon as possible. After all, the transition is only going to get harder as your infrastructure becomes more complex – and the longer you wait, the more likely it is that your competitors will gain an advantage because of their increased flexibility and agility.
